{"id":4906,"date":"2004-03-15T18:26:01","date_gmt":"2004-03-15T17:26:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grayblog.co.uk\/?p=4906"},"modified":"2004-03-15T18:26:01","modified_gmt":"2004-03-15T17:26:01","slug":"not-shocking-at-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/grayblog.co.uk\/index.php\/2004\/03\/15\/not-shocking-at-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Not shocking at all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/sci\/tech\/3501446.stm\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"BBC News\">Government &quot;ignores&quot; space threat<\/a>.<br \/>\nWhilst Neos may not be a huge concern to many people, I think that this story is completely symptomatic of the current government&#8217;s attitude to just about anything and is an example of the way that they handle many issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>people have concerns<\/li>\n<li>government sets up a task force to investigate (note: may have a different name, such as independent review, inquiry, panel or committee)<\/li>\n<li>task force makes recommendations<\/li>\n<li>minister promises that recommendations will be implemented<\/li>\n<li>three years later, somebody points out that nothing has been done, but by then the issue is dead so nobody cares<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don&#8217;t make me list all the examples where this has happened.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m sure that our government is by no means unique in this regard. I think that this is a major contributing factor in voter apathy. Speaking of which, there was a good report on the subject by Dan Damon on this evening&#8217;s PM programme on Radio 4, but unfortunately I can&#8217;t find any web links for it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Government &quot;ignores&quot; space threat.
