  • Forgot to say that I

Forgot to say that I finally caught sight of one of the falcons as I walked past the cathedral this morning. I actually heard him/her before I saw him/her, as he/she was flying around the spire calling loudly to his/her mate/chicks.

Harrumph. Doesn’t look like the laptop vs beer problem is going to be much of an issue this evening, as the carrier’s tracking system has revised the ETA to tomorrow. guh.

  • I’m told that I must

I’m told that I must go to the pub tonight. And who am I to argue?
Although resisting the temptation to stay in a play with my new laptop (assuming it actually does turn up today) will be quite hard.

  • Railways, PAYE and Best of

Railways, PAYE and Best of British magazine – well, it all just pales into insignificance against the knowledge that comes via the ever tasty Katy – yes, it’s true, you can now get vanilla flavour Monster Munch!

    oh….my….god.

I thought I’d check out Google for more info on the subject (not that I was doubting Katy, I hasten to add), and stumbled across the fabulous SnackSpot, which is just awesome and may become a compulsory read. And I love the subheading: "May contain nuts".

  • Whilst looking on the map

Whilst looking on the map to see where the new Wensleydale Railway will run (an excellent idea, I reckon, that will open up a huge section of the Yorkshire Dales to car-free exploration), I note that Yorkshire is blessed with the villages of Crackpot and Booze. How did these places get their names? Clearly, I need a copy of this book.

Why would anyone read “The Best Of British” magazine, complete with sepia-toned cover? I wonder if there are other similar titles. Nostalgia Today? The Best Of Yesterday? Social history is one thing, but navel-gazing nostalgia is something else.

Last year, I’m sure the 26th box on the P35 was entitled "box Z". This year, it is "box 26", which doesn’t quite have the same degree of finality to it. Either way, I’ve succeeded in filling it with the word "nil" once again, much to my satisfaction.
(This will mean nothing to anyone that has never had to do PAYE paperwork for the Inland Revenue).

  • For those following the progress

For those following the progress of my new laptop, it left Raheen yesterday and progressed on the late ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. From there it went on to Coventry. Apparently it has now left Coventry and is still scheduled to arrive here tomorrow.

I’m absolutely shattered. Yesterday was a very long day in the teeth of a cold wind and the occasional shower. In spite of that, it was reasonably successful, not least due to the hard work that I put in along with the people at Pashley in promoting the event.
Today I have a shedload of paperwork to do, plus a meeting this afternoon that I’d rather not go to, it being with a client who is somewhat pennypinching and time consuming – a bad combination. But hopefully I can extract some useful work out of him for the nursery.
On the plus side, I’ve just had a call from Pashley to say that they’ve made an error with my fee, and I’m due an additional £37. It’s good to work with people who are so helpful and honest.
They also have a new puppy at Pashley. I’m not a dog person generally, but this chocolate labrador is utterly gorgeous.
