WP – complete list of current problems

  • comment notification doesn’t work. It’ll send the notification to any address other than graybo@grayblog.co.uk – totally mystified by that one
  • monthly archives not working – totally mystified. This is, in my estimation, the most serious fault. If I can’t remedy it, I may look at an alternative CMS. Ugh. May be related to the next problem.
  • pretty permalinks not working. Related: .htaccess not updating, in spite of being CHMOD 666. Totally mystified.
  • still haven’t figured out how to get previous and next page links at the foot of the index page and, by extension, the archive pages. This is due to me not knowing enough/any php.

Bah.

  1. Have you checked the Codex??

Anyway – item 3 – I had to CHMOD to 777 then back to 666. Worked after that (I have the same problem CHMODing folders I think 34sp “fight” against you doing stuff like that but it IS possible).

Pretty sure, as you say, item 2 is related to item 3. Not sure about the others as I’ve not got them in place.

  2. Yeah, I’ve pored over the Codex and the forums – the only thing I’ve found so far is that there are loads of people with a similar problem. Either there is something wrong with the WordPress code or WP expects something to be supported by hosts that is not widely or correctly supported.

I tried your suggestion to CHMOD 777 then back to 666. Now WP is updating the .htaccess file, but the resulting file causes a 500 internal server error.

So back to the forums and Codex, methinks.

  3. OK, I’ve checked my server error logs. This is the error being generated:
[Fri Apr 8 10:23:46 2005] [alert] [client 81.130.49.105] /var/www/vhosts/grayblog.co.uk/httpdocs/.htaccess: RewriteRule: cannot compile regular expression '^?p=author/([^/]+)/feed/(feed|rdf|rss|rss2|atom)/?$'n

    Ideas?

  4. re. the email address, could it be that you’ve got that one set up as your main admin email, and so it won’t use it?

Just an idea – I’ve no idea for certain, as I don’t use the functionality myself.
