If you feel like pushing the boat out a bit, I can highly recommend the Grand Hotel Karel V. We spent a wonderful couple of nights there last year, and it wasn’t too expensive. I loved Utrecht – like Bruges with a pulse.

We know Utrecht fairly well – I have "dumped" Hels and Tom there before whilst I go off and do some work. It’s a great city with a good mix of attractions, shops, bars and restaurants, nice architecture and, of course, the Dick Bruna Huis (a.k.a. The Miffy Museum!).
