There was a moment in an interview on Radio 5 last Friday in which the chairman/spokesperon/headsomethingorother of the National Secular Society pleaded with people that if they were against the Popes visit “for God’s sake get out and protest”. Luckily, the interviewer was quick enough to pick it up and inquire “and why ‘for God’s sake?’ if you don’t believe”.
Yes, I’ve heard similar things, although even as secularists and atheists, we often tend to use the same colloquialisms as those terrible blaspheming Christians.
